Forced Christianity is Wrong

I’ve always known that there are Christians who want to coerce unbelievers into living Christian values. I just didn’t know, until recently coming across it, that there is a term for those who are extreme in this view. It’s called “Christian reconstructionism.” People who want to see it come to pass are those who believe that all aspects of society should be ruled by the Bible.

These believers have the goal of creating a worldwide kingdom modeled after the Mosaic Law, including its punishments. The funny thing, though, is that the church wouldn’t be in charge. The government would; but it would be set up to follow the laws of God.

When you think about it, that kind of mindset is no different from that of radical Islamists. They too want their religious precepts and moral code to rule the world. It’s called Sharia law.

Reconstructionists believe that Jesus won’t return to earth until a Christian worldwide kingdom is put in place. I don’t see that requirement mentioned anywhere in the Bible. What I do see upon Jesus’ return is this chaotic world being destroyed and left desolate for a thousand years.*

Reconstructionists are flat out wrong to believe that this world can be made Christian-peaceful by forcing people to act out biblical laws and principals. Christian peace only comes from within. God knows that. That’s why He doesn’t force us to accept Him. Evil and His righteousness are before us; the Holy Spirit convicts us of both; and we get to choose.

God would never force the unrepentant to live out His commands. Therefore, neither should His followers. Free-will is God’s calling card. He woos us with it so that if we come to Him, it is because we freely want to be with Him, living His ways.
